Angel Flight East provides free air transportation for three areas of need: 1) flights for children and adults in need of medical treatment far from home, 2) compassion flights for humanitarian needs and 3) disaster
response. We are able to provide this service by way of a network of volunteer pilots who use their own aircraft and assume all expenses related to the flights. Our service area is Ohio to Virginia to Maine. Angel Flight East had to put our most frequently requested service, transportation of patients, on pause because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Early this week an Angel Flight volunteer pilot placed a call to a company, Mursix Corporation, located in Indiana, that produces face shields, asking if Angel Flight could provide assistance with transportation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The need for (PPE) is great and timeliness of the delivery, from the production line to the front line, is imperative. Volunteer pilots can respond quickly through the flight scheduling system operated by Angel Flight East. 50,000 face shields were delivered to the Massachusetts Department of Emergency Services in Bedford, MA over three days, approximately 17,000 face shields per day We can replicate this service for other suppliers of PPE: companies, 3D printing labs, and others, delivering supplies to hospitals and organizations in need of them.
