Angel Flight East – Our Story
Many thanks to 7.31 Production for this Fantastic Video that Tells the AFE Story!
What We Do
Angel Flight East is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community by facilitating free air transportation for children and adults with medical conditions who need to get to treatment far from home. AFE serves the Eastern region of the United States, and for destinations beyond our reach, we link with other volunteer pilot organizations. Anyone who requests a flight must be medically stable, able to board an aircraft, and fly in a small non-pressurized aircraft. Our volunteer pilots use their private planes to fly patients to their destinations. These men and women pay for all expenses for each mission they fly.
Most AFE patients require air transportation numerous times over several years for treatment of and follow-up for their conditions. In 2015 Angel Flight East pilots flew over 67,000 miles, spending a total of 1,068 hours in the air helping 150 families. Infants, children and youth constitute one-half of the patients we transport and providing transportation of family members is also a critical component of our service.
Medical facilities to which AFE flew in 2015 include, but are not limited to:
Johns Hopkins Hospital
Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Mount Sinai Hospital
Nationwide Children's Hospital
Shriner’s Hospital for Children
